Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Actor Teases Ghost Rider’s Return
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has always received less attention that other TV shows (and movies alike) set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite the series’ best efforts to tie into larger MCU events (see the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents’ defeat of Hydra, battling of Inhumans, and rebuilding of S.H.I.E.L.D.). With season 4, the show took its biggest leap yet to try and gain recognition within the MCU and its fans by introducing Ghost Rider. Gabriel Luna’s portrayal quickly made him a fan-favorite character and launched countless pitches for him to get his own series, including some official talks as well.

There has so far been no official word on a Ghost Rider spinoff series, although the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. mid-season finale seemed to set up that possibility, as it seemingly ended his run as a recurring character on the series. His future in the MCU remains unknown after Robbie Reyes (Luna) and his uncle Eli vanished in the S.H.I.E.L.D. midseason finale – but it should come as no surprise that one of the show’s cast members is now teasing that he will return, in some fashion.

Lorenzo Henrie plays Robbie’s brother Gabe on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and recently spoke to Fan Fest about the future of his onscreen brother. While he could not get into specific details, Henrie did tease that he knows some of what is being planned for the character and that fans of Ghost Rider should be on the look-out for him to return:

I know some things. They are on a winter break right now, but all I know is, I’m pretty sure it’s not the end for Ghost Rider. I know they have some things up their sleeves. It’s gonna be sick.

While S.H.I.E.L.D. will shift its focus to L.M.D.s when season 4 resumes, the popularity of Ghost Rider suggests he will become involved in that storyline, at some point. The character’s initial inclusion was met with skepticism as it was unclear how well a VFX-heavy being like Ghost Rider would work on a TV budget, but the show has proven time and time again that it can make him look great on the small screen. There may yet be multiple stories for him to be a part of on the series in the future too.

Whether it means Robbie showing up during the latter portion of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 or Ghost Rider getting his very own series, it sounds as though Marvel is not done with Ghost Rider yet. Hopefully, Robbie’s return will be sooner rather than later, but with Henrie teasing plans for the Spirit of Vengeance to show up again and Luna having said that he isn’t worried about Robbie’s fate, viewers should be reassured that the Ghost Rider will indeed ride again.
