Prison Break Revival Gets Official April Premiere Date

PC

Last year, The X-Files was one of the biggest series revivals on television, and fans may see more of Agents Mulder and Scully in the future. This year, however, a large bet is being placed on Prison Break as one of the biggest small-screen revivals, when the hit crime drama returns to FOX. There has already been a sneak peek featurette as well as some Comic-Con previews for the return of Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) and Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller). The revival also brings back Sarah Wayne Callies as Dr. Sara Tancredi, as well as several other familiar faces from Fox River.

It has also been revealed that the show will involve the biggest breakout yet, as Michael is discovered alive in a foreign prison, and his brother and Sara have to engineer another escape. Now, FOX has revealed the official premiere date for the series this spring.

As part of their spring scheduling announcements, the network confirms that Prison Break will air starting April 4, at 9pm

“In the next action-packed chapter of Prison Break, premiering Tuesday, April 4 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), original series stars Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, Amaury Nolasco, Robert Knepper, Rockmond Dunbar and Paul Adelstein are reunited for an all-new adventure spanning the globe. When clues surface that suggest a previously thought-to-be-dead Michael Scofield (Miller, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) may be alive, his brother, Lincoln Burrows (Purcell, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), reunites with Michael’s wife, Sara (Callies, Colony, The Walking Dead), and Fox River State Penitentiary’s most notorious escapees to engineer the series’ biggest breakout ever. The series is created by Paul T. Scheuring. Scheuring, Vaun Wilmott, Michael Horowitz, Dawn Olmstead, Nelson McCormick, Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz serve as executive producers.”

This schedule sees Prison Break replacing Bones in the 9pm Tuesday slot, and is reportedly running for nine episodes, which will mean that this new series will run through April and May, before something new takes its place for the summer season.

This announcement is exciting news for viewers who have been anticipating the return of Michael Scofield, as well as for fans of Bones who were wondering what they would be doing with their Tuesday nights now that the series is coming to an end. It also means that fans of Miller and Purcell won’t have many weeks without the duo on their screens, as Legends of Tomorrow (which will also air on Tuesday evenings) will come to the end of its second season at the end of March. The time and day also show how much faith FOX has in the revival series, as Tuesday nights are prime viewing time – and the later time slot suggests that it is going to be just as tense and violent as the original show.

The shorter length of the series demonstrates the increased interest in event series by the networks during this time of Peak TV. As evidenced by the ratings success The X-Files enjoyed, it’s clear there is a growing market for shorter seasons or mini-series, especially when they are a revival of a popular property. All eyes will be on FOX this April to see if this latest revival is as big a hit.
